The edible pomegranate contains hundreds of small red pips, each encapsulated in a membrane full of sweet, light red juice. The number of cores varies between 200 and 1400 and these cores make up about 20% of the edible part of the fetus. The cores are separated and the rare oil is cold pressed from them. The oil is very dense and only a small amount is required for application.
