Should you use a chemical or physical exfoliator?

When it comes to exfoliation, there are different methods available, and the choice between chemical or physical exfoliation depends on various factors, such as your skincare routine, skin type, and personal preference.

Physical exfoliators involve using a product that physically removes dead skin cells through actions such as manual scrubbing, rubbing, or removing the skin's surface using exfoliating cloths, tools, or scrubs. On the other hand, chemical exfoliants use skin-friendly chemicals like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, and malic acid or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) like salicylic acid to dissolve the "glue" that binds dead skin cells, allowing them to be easily sloughed away.

While physical exfoliators like the Whipped Butter Polish can be gentle and nourishing to the skin, chemical exfoliants are usually considered to be more effective and less abrasive. However, some chemical exfoliants like retinoids can cause skin irritation and sensitivity. Ultimately, the choice of which exfoliator to use depends on personal preference and skin type.
