OZN was founded in 2015 by David Gerrlich and Nina Skarabela. Nina has studied graphic design and has the eye for beautiful things. She works as a psychotherapist and is the face of OZN.

David has been in the cosmetics industry for over ten years and develops and produces the OZN products.

"From the beginning onwards I had a clear vision of the look and feel of my brand. Without harmful ingredients - but not eco-freaky, clean and modern - something I would buy immediately. I have been inspired by a 1000 small things and stores I like, products I love and the packaging I have kept for years because it is too pretty to throw away, art and magazines. I‘ve tried to give the brand an individual touch, to convey a feeling, and I believe you can feel it too."

NINA SKARABELA - OZN FOUNDEROZN PHILOSOPHY

VEGAN
Society has moved towards a more sustainable and healthy approach of consumer products. People are more conscious about what they eat and where products are coming from. Also the cosmetics industry is getting more conscious and critical about ingredients and the manufacturing process. OZN is committed to a vegan nail polish range, which includes avoidance of all animal products (no animal substances, pigments made from animals, or any other animal by-products) and a halal production.

WITHOUT HARMFUL INGREDIENTS

It is crucial that OZN products are not harmful to your health. OZN nail polish has been developed with no known toxic substances. We use alternative solvents and compounds, which are biodegradable and do not damage your health or pollute the environment. One example is butyl acetate, a solvent which is derived from acetic acid.

OZN products do NOT contain:

  • Formaldehyde (considered a carcinogen, but it may be used in Germany if the concentration is below 1%)
  • Formaldehyde resin
  • Toluene (a solvent, degreases the skin and may lead to inflammation)
  • Colophonium (a harmful resin, may lead to contact eczema)
  • DBP, dibutyl phthalate (a plasticiser, inhalation or ingestion can lead to health problems and temporary symptoms such as dizziness, nausea and headache. The European Union considers DBP toxic for reproduction)
  • Paraben (preservatives)
  • Xylol (a solvent, may be a health hazard when absorbed through the skin and the respiratory tract, may cause headaches, memory and orientation problems, dizziness and dyspnoea)
  • Acetone (a chemical compound that may irritate the skin. The vapours may cause nausea)
  • TPHP, triphenyl phosphate (may affect the hormonal balance, reproduction and metabolism)
  • Mineral oil
  • Silicone

OZN - Laky a nehtyThe above-mentioned substances are harmful to the health and are not environmentally friendly.

As for the colour pigments used in nail polishes, we also sometimes make use of the so-called AZO colours. AZO colours are suspected of being carcinogenic or causing allergies and inflammations. However, the potential risks associated with nail polish are completely irrelevant, as the dyes do not come into direct contact with mucous membranes, as it is the case with eye shadows, where they sometimes get in touch with the eye, nor are they accidentally "consumed" as it may happen with lipsticks.
